Category Archives: My Core Beliefs

Below this post you will find my core Christian beliefs and descriptions of what I consider to be essential Christian practices. Please feel free to engage in discussion on any topics here or ones you think I should have included.

I offer these core beliefs not as a non-negotiable line in the sand that definitively articulates the one and only true, “orthodox” belief on the various subjects involved, but rather as a continually evolving description of what I have found to be the most helpful and true and consistent with both ancient and contemporary Christian faith. The following explanations and selections are only a testament to my convictions. I would encourage others to consider the value of them, but I am not so presumptuous to pretend that my expressions are the only valid ones. As such, all comments are welcome, provided that they honor a legitimate spirit of discussion. Rude or hostile verbiage will not be tolerated.

The Church

Church is not a building; it is a community of faithful people who recognize who Jesus is and have given their lives to him (1 Cor. 12:12-13). The church of Jesus Christ is a universal body of believers who are … Continue reading

The Bible

Have you ever found it odd that so many churches’ belief statements start with the Bible? It seems to me that we should start with the most important first, which (at least for me) is God and each member of … Continue reading

Humanity

Humans were created by God in his image. By free choice humans rebelled against God and thus brought sin and death into the human race. Christ died for us to redeem us; therefore every human possesses dignity and is worthy … Continue reading
